We center on the improvement and support of diagnostics and the treatment of disorders that are relevant to family practices. The focus is on infectious diseases, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. We also conduct research into primary care innovations, mainly in the areas of disease management, patient safety, e-Health and self-management. For this research, we use the departments networks, such as the Julius Network of General Practitioners, the Leidsche Rijn Health Project and NUZO Utrecht Care for the Elderly Network.

There are four sections: Education, Patient Care, Research and Networks. We discuss developments that trainers of general practitioners and postgraduate students may face. We also pay attention to such topics as the changing role of general practice in Doctor of Medicine training and the way in which our university health centers in Leidsche Rijn shape and study healthcare innovation. You can also read more about the results of scientific publications by our department, emphasizing every-day practice.
